Race Challenge By The St. Regis Saadiyat Island To Raise Cash For Children’s Healthcare
(23 November 2017)

The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort, Abu Dhabi will host a race challenge on its beach on the 8th of December to raise funds for children's healthcare.

The biathlon, in aid of Al Jalila Foundation, will appeal to all family members from toddlers to adults, who are invited to join the 'Run, Swim, Run' competition on the second Friday of December at 8am sharp.

"Giving back to the community in which we operate is one of our top priorities at The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort, Abu Dhabi," said its hotel manager, Marwan Fadel.

"With the mild winter weather now upon us, we have decided to host an event outdoors – one that will bring guests and Abu Dhabi residents together. People of all ages and abilities are welcome to join us for this fun-filled competition."

The race will have six entry categories tailored to suit different age groups. Junior and adult entrants must complete two 1,600-metre runs plus a 500-meter swim in between. Cadets, aged 11 to 14, must complete two half-kilometer runs, with a 250-metre swim in between, while Tiny Nippers, under the age of 10, will be put through their paces with two 200-meter dashes, plus a 50-meter wade.

Entry costs AED 150 per person. All funds raised will go to Al Jalila Foundation, a philanthropic organization dedicated to medical education and research. Founded in 2013 by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, it grants scholarships to student physicians and funds research into the Arabian Gulf's most prevalent conditions.

The 'Run, Swim, Run' race is a continuation of the Road to Awareness philanthropic campaign organized by the hotel's parent company, Marriott International. The money raised on Saadiyat Island will be donated to the foundation's pediatric program, named 'Farah', which means 'happiness' in Arabic. It provides life-saving treatment and funds cutting-edge research into serious childhood illnesses, offering hope to countless youngsters and their families.
